How to care for handmade pottery:

Food Safety

Pottery made by Juliann Roush is food safe and lead free.  I fire all my stoneware pottery in a kiln to a temperature of over 2,200 degrees which makes it vitrified and ideal for drinking, serving and baking.  I use commercial clays and glazes and strictly adhere to the manufacturers specifications used in creating my pottery.

Cleaning

My pottery is dishwasher safe, however, because of the abrasive nature of dishwashing detergent, which could eventually dull the surface over time, hand-washing is highly recommended. Please use care and good judgment.  Do not use harsh scrub pads to clean your pottery as they can scratch the surface.  Never remove stoneware directly from a hot dishwasher and place something cold in it.

** To clean Salt and Pepper shakers wipe with a damp cloth.  Do NOT put salt and pepper shakers in dishwasher or submerge in water.

Oven Safe / Microwave Safe Not all of my pottery is microwave and oven safe.  If there is any wire or spinning objects they CAN NOT be put in the microwave. Never put a cold piece of pottery in a hot oven - always place pottery into a cold oven, then bring up to temperature. DO NOT PUT POTTERY IN A PRE-HEATED OVEN.  Avoid sudden temperature changes; thermal shock can cause pottery to crack or break. Never use stoneware on a stovetop or open flame. Empty pottery should never be put into a microwave.
